A print after the fresco Jacob asks for Rachel as wife painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the vault of the sixth bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. Lettered with Bible quote in Latin (Genesis 29) and attribution of the composition to Raphael. Signed with the engraver's monogram at lower right (see Nagler, IV, no.2360). Numbered on plate at lower right: 23. Trimmed inside platemark. On watermarked paper. Not included in Ruland (1876).
This print is from a series which was first issued in Sacrae Historiae Acta a Raphael Urbin in Vaticanis xystis ad picturae miraculum expressa, Rome, 1649.Provenance
