After Giulio Romano (Rome c. 1499-Mantua 1546)
The Resurrection of Christ c.1860-76
-
A photograph of a drawing now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no.3468). Both the authorship of the sheet and its role are a matter of debate, with some critics supporting the traditional attribution to Giulio Romano and others suggesting the name of Raffaellino del Colle. It has been variously associated with a number of projects and works.
The composition was engraved, in reverse, by an artist sometimes identified with Diana Scultori, crediting Raphael with the invention (see Massari in Raphael Invenit 1985, p.141, no.VI.1). Although greatly different in composition, the Louvre drawing has sometimes been connected with the Scuola Nuova tapestry of this subject.
