Lettered with title, artists' names and then location of the work (collection of Pierre Crozat). Numbered in the lower right corner: 44. Published in Recueil Crozat, Paris 1729, plate 44.
The drawing is a preparatory study for the left-hand group in The School of Athens, painted by Raphael in c.1509-10 in the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican.Provenance
