Portrait of a Man c.1853-76
-
A photograph of a painting attributed to Palma il Vecchio currently part of the Alba Collection, housed in the Palacio de Liria in Madrid. Rylands (1992) dates the painting 1527-8 and suggests the sitter may be Girolamo Capra.
The portrait was reproduced in an etching by Wenceslaus Hollar in 1650 while in the Van Veerle Collection. The legend below image ascribes the portrait to Correggio and identifies the sitter as Arcolano Armafodrito. An impression of this print can be found at RCIN 852110. Ruland (1876) thought that the painting may be by Raphael.Provenance
Acquired for the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
