A photograph of a drawing formerly in the Lanier and Richardson collections. The drawing is one of a number thought to reproduce a preparatory study (probably by Raphael and now lost) for the St John the Baptist in the Desert, a painting by the workshop of Raphael after designs by the master (c.1517-18) now in the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence (inv. no.1446). A drawing in the Uffizi, Florence (inv. no.545E) has long been considered the original study by Raphael (see RCIN 851510). Photographs of other existing similar drawings at RCINs 851511, 851513.
