A print after a drawing formerly attributed to Raphael now in the Albertina, Vienna (inv. no.204); reproduced in reverse. The drawing is now regarded as a copy after a study by Raphael currently in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (inv. no.WA1846.162r). Signed, dated and numbered on plate: 'N.o.4'. A photograph of the Ashmolean drawing can be found at RCIN 851272.
The print shows the full-length Virgin, seated, bending over to the left and holding the Christ Child with both hands. The Child turns His head to the Infant Baptist who sits on the ground at left and holds a reed cross. A standing figure in the left background. The figures are set against an architectural background.Provenance
