A print reproducing (in reverse) the so-called Madonna del Pozzo, a painting by Franciabigio currently housed in the Museo degli Uffizi, Florence (inv. 1980, no.1445). The print credits Raphael with the invention of the composition. Lettered with production details and Bible quote. Numbered on plate, below the image at lower left: 2.
The print shows the Infant Baptist holding a cross in his right hand and presenting an inscribed scroll to the Virgin with his left, who sits on the ground and supports the naked Christ Child with her left hand; in a landscape with a well in the right background.Provenance
