An engraving after a painting catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the possession of M.I.I. Wuyts, Antwerp.
The painting is one of a number reproducing a composition traditionally known as the Madonna del Velo, the original version of which (currently untraced) is thought to have been painted by Raphael’s workshop after a design by the master dating c.1510-12 (see Bibliographic References).
