A facsimile engraving of a drawing now in the Musée Condé, Chantilly (inv. no.51(43)). With the engraver's stamp in lower left corner (Lugt 2791). Lettered with production details. See RCIN 850769 for a photograph of the drawing.
The drawing has been generally considered as a copy after a lost original drawing by Raphael related to his so-called Canigiani Holy Family (c.1506-07; see RCIN 850756 for a photograph of it). Ruland (1876) attributed the drawing to Raphael and described it as being then in the collection of the Duke of Aumale.
Showing the Virgin supporting the Christ Child on her knees, who leans forward to the Infant Baptist resting on St Elizabeth’s lap; a study for the figure of St Joseph in the upper part.Provenance
