The Flight into Egypt c.1853-76
-
A photograph of a print by Martin Schongauer depicting The Flight into Egypt. Signed by the printmaker with his monogram.
An engraving by Giulio Bonasone (see RCIN 850507 for it) was traditionally (Ruland, Bartsch) believed to be a copy after this print by Schongauer, but Massari (see Bibliographic References) catalogued it as being after a now lost design by Raphael which is known through a drawing dubitatively attributed to Timoteo Viti now in the Uffizi, Florence (inv. no. 1359F).Provenance
Acquired for the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
