Four Chinese ivory chess pieces standing on a thin-waisted carved pedestal. The king wears a mandarin's hat and pigtail and holds his beard. The queen wears long robes, an intricate headdress and holds a flower. The bishop with a beard, loose tunic, belt and staff. Pawn has an inscribed circular plaque.
