A blue-and-white porcelain jar and cover. Broad-based potiche spreading gently at the foot; with unglazed base, short neck and low, domed cover, with spreading rim and pointed blue knob. Painted round the sides are three ranks of rectangular panels containing, alternately, mountain landscapes and flowering plants, including chrysanthemum, peony, peach, camellia, prunus and lotus; and round the shoulder and neck, a narrow chequered border and lotus scroll in white reserved on blue. The cover is decorated to match.

Possibly identifiable, together with the jar and cover RCIN 110, and one of a pair of vases, RCIN 64055, among a group of blue-and-white porcelain wares represented on a side table in a watercolour of Queen Mary’s Drawing Room (The Admirals’ Gallery) at Kensington Palace, c.1817, by James Stephanoff (1789–1874) (RCIN 922152).
