A photograph of a fan painted by Victoria, Princess Royal. Each letter of the Queen's name is shown supporting a group of flowers beginning with that initial letter. Names and birthdates of each of her children are inscribed between the flowers. A circular panel is shown in the centre, with two winged angels and a ribbon inscribed with the Queen's birthday.
Queen Victoria's children often made cards or drawings for their parents as gifts on important dates. Victoria Princess Royal painted this fan for her mother's birthday on 24 May 1856.
This photograph is housed in an album of drawings by Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Victoria, Princess Royal. For other items in this album see Princess Royal Drawings Volume. -
