A hand-coloured print of a scene inside a crowded studio where various scientific instruments are scattered around. Napoleon who is being distilled to extract his original essence, appears inside a glass bottle placed over a 'German stove'. 'Intrigue and Villainy', 'Ambition and Foley' and other undesirable characteristics are distilled from the miniature tyrant. The bellows are worked by a smoking Dutchman and the coals are being added by John Bull. Bernadotte adds 'sulphate of Swedish Iron' to the mixture as the Pope stands holding vials ready to add containing 'fulminating powder'. Various representatives of European powers work at a table against which are propped texts entitled 'Liberty of Germany' and 'The Downfall of Boney'. Inscribed in the plate: Pubd December 14 1813 by R Ackermann No 101 Strand
