An uncoloured print satirising the power of the Girondins in France during the French Revolution. The embodiment of the French Republic in the centre, totters precariously on broken columns. On the left, Liberty stands on a Law book holding a severed head on a dagger whilst the grotesque 'Plenty' offers assignats to hungry heads. On the right, Equality in the guise of a prone man, is being clubbed to death. Above a soldier fires a cannon marked 'Universal Benevolence'. A banner marked 'Humanity' features a female character on the right and loosely drawn, cutting the heart from a man. Inscribed in the plate: GLS
