An uncoloured print of a disabled sailor using crutches who turns to face the viewer. The scene is open with no buildings or other figures in sight. On the sailor's back is a small child, barefoot, with its arms around the sailor's neck. Originally published Nov. 27, 1788 - publisher's title bottom left corner. Another impression exists from 1 January 1801. Inscribed in the plate: Pubd Novr 27 1788 by W Rowlandson No 49 Broad Street Bloomsbury / Publish'd Decr 2 1789 by T Rowlandson No 50 Poland Street
