A hand-coloured print of the symbolic representations of the symptoms of fever. A man with a clenched jaw sits in front of a fire attempting to warm himself as he is held in the grip of ague, a snake like creature with bony joints wrapped around the victim's limbs. In the centre stands the representation of the heat of a fever, its arms outstretched and staring malignantly. On the right, a doctor is seated at a table holding a bottle and writing. Inscribed in the plate: Design'd by James Dunthorne / Etch'd by T Rowlandson / Pub as the Act directs March 29 1788 by T Rowlandson No.50 Poland Street
