He is comforted by a young maid who holds his hand whilst another maid pours him a drink from a bottle. In the corner, a man servant holds a tureen ready to be eaten by the patient. In the doorway stands a large man looking on. A book entitled 'Treatment of Gout' lies discarded on the floor.
