An etching of an imperial cone shell, Conus imperialis Linnaeus, 1758 [Conidae; A&D p. 244]. Indo-Pacific, to 110 mm. Has been associated with Rembrandt’s etching B.159, but that is a different species, C. marmoreus Linnaeus, 1758. Not copied in Buonanni (though there are several cones, 2.III.123-139) or Lister.
