-
An etching of two screw shells, Turritella spp. Lamarck, 1799 [Turritellidae; A&D p. 59], labelled A and B
A: Great screw shell, Turritella terebra (Linnaeus, 1758). South-west Pacific, to 160mm. Copied in Buonanni 2.III.115, in the same direction with the addition of a shadow.
B: Uncertain Turritella sp. Parthey and Pennington offered T. duplicata (Linnaeus, 1758); Linnaeus’s description of the species (as Turbo duplicata) accords with Hollar’s image, but the taxonomy of Turritella spp. is not satisfactory. Copied in Buonanni 2.III.114, reversed with the addition of a shadow.
