Regimental Colours of the Royal Munster Fusiliers 1st Battalion (101st Foot, Royal Bengal Fusiliers) (1st origin 1652, 1st regiment 1756). Blue silk ground with embroidered wreath of Tudor roses, thistles, shamrock under crown. Central crimson reserve with 1 in centre surrounded by THE ROYAL MUNSTER FUSILIERS, tiger in left hand corner and shamrock in right corner. Battles inscribed in yellow scrolls, left: Plassy, Masulipatam, Buxar, Carnatic, Guzerat, Bhurtpore, Ghuznee 1839, Sobraon, Chillianwallah, Pegu, Lucknow. Right: Condore, Bandara, Rohilicund, Sholinghur, Deig, Afganistan, Ferozeshah, Punjaub, Goojerat, Dehli, Burmas 1885-87, South Africa 1899-1902. Wooden pole with gilt metal finial.
Provenance
The Royal Munster Fusiliers were formed during the military reforms of 1881 by the joining of the 101st Regiment of Foot (Royal Bengal Fusiliers), the 104th Regiment of Foot (Bengal Fusiliers) and local Militia units in the province of Munster. This colour was presented to King George V after the regiment was disbanded on the 12th June 1922
