Regimental Colours of the Royal Irish Regiment 1st Battalion (18th Foot) (Raised 1684). Blue silk embroidered with wreath of tudor roses, thistles and shamrock around reserve with harp and inscription THE ROYAL IRISH REGIMENT. Shield with lion rampant and eight squares on blue ground at each corners with I under left corner. Battles inscribed on yellow scrolls, left: Namur 1695, Ramillies, Malplaquet, Sevastopol, Afganistan 1879-80, Tel-al-Kebir, Egypt (sphinx). Right: Blenheim, Oudenarde, Pegu, New Zealand, Egypt, 1882, Nile 1884-5, China (dragon). Centre: South Africa 1900-02, Virtutus Namurcensis Praemium. Wooden pole with inscribed band, gilt metal crown finial.
