A hand-coloured lithograph of one of the royal wedding cakes produced for the wedding of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert on 10 February 1840. Lettered below with title, publication details and a description of the cake and its decoration.
This circular cake weighed 300 pounds and had a circumference of about 3 metres. It was decorated with figures of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert dressed in ancient Greek costume, and ornamented with festoons of orange blossom and sprigs of myrtle entwined together. More than one cake was baked for the wedding as pieces were distributed to many people.Provenance
