Ceremonial Tibetan teapot; round copper body, with a lid attached by a chain, splayed foot, and white metal mounts in repoussé foliate and floral pattern
Provenance
One of a pair sent by the Dalai Lama of Tibet, Thubten Gyatso (1876-1933), to King George V, which was presented by four Tibetan boys and their chaperone, Kusho Lungshar, at Buckingham Palace on 28 June 1913.
Most likely made in the Tibetan government workshops at Lhasa, and brand new at the time of the deputation, with RCIN 74480. -
