Silk | 0.5 x 20.0 x 50.0 cm (rolled up) | RCIN 74393
-
Buddhist prayer shawl, Khada The silk used to weave khada is very fine, with the ends left loose; this is entirely usual for these types of shawl and not a sign of deterioration. The whole scarf is woven with self-coloured Buddhist symbols in bands.
Provenance
Presented to Queen Elizabeth II on behalf of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, 1962.
Queen Elizabeth II paid State Visits to India, Pakistan, Nepal and Iran in early 1962; it is believed that this scarf was presented in Nepal, but not in a personal audience with the Dalai Lama. -
