Cotton, metallic thread | RCIN 74125

-
Three textiles comprising: an oblong length of red/brown woven cloth; length of dark red woven cloth with gold coloured metallic thread in overall design and borders; a sleeved jacket of red and yellow cloth.
The jacket (.c) likely a ceremonial kalambi from West Kalimantan (Malaysian Indonesia), associated with the Iban people. It is of red cotton with geometric patterns in broad vertical stripes, and thinner horizontal bands of squared geometric forms across the bottom. Two toggles on string act as fastenings on the vertical opening at the front.Provenance
Probably the 'miscellanous articles of clothing' presented to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh during his 1959 visit to Borneo, by the People of North Borneo, at the Colony Display, Jesselton.
