Pikeman's pot formed in two pieces with a hemispherical crown rising to a low medial comb and a broad integral brim turned down at each side. Decorated around its edge with a recessed border enclosed to the inside by a rib, the base of the crown decorated with a pair of recessed bands separated by a similar rib, the upper band rising at its centre to a chevron-shaped projection and bordered above by a pair of incised lines that continues around the top of the crown to either side of the comb, the brim struck with an unidentified mark, possibly to be read as the initials ‘CI’, and with the crowned ‘IR’ government ownership mark of the reign of James II (1685–8).
