Princess Alexandra's wedding dress, comprising: a cream silk bodice with low drawstring neck with Honiton lace and net trim, short puff sleeves with orange blossom sprigs; the skirt with flat front and six panels, gathered into train at the back, with a wide needle-lace trim, all lined with brown silk and stiff muslin. Princess Alexandra was the first member of the Royal Family to be photographed in her wedding dress.
Provenance
Wedding dress worn by Princess Alexandra of Denmark when marrying Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (the future King Edward VII) in 1863. After their wedding the dress was altered by the London dressmaker Mme Elise.
