A plan of the crossroads of Quatre-Bras outside Brussels. Quatre-Bras was of key strategic importance: Wellington needed to defend the crossroads to prevent Napoleon taking the city. On 16 June the allied army and part of the French army met at the site. The battle was indecisive, with heavy losses on both sides.
