Papa Ibra Tall, born in 1935 in Senegal, studied in Paris between 1954 and 1959, training in tapestry weaving at Aubusson. He returned to Senegal in the 1960s and joined the National Manufactory of Tapestry on its formation in 1966. He was associated with President Senghor's Négritude Movement and served as head of the Section de Recherches Plastiques Nègres.
