This plate was engraved after Joshua Kirby for William Chambers’s Plans, Elevations, Sections and Perspective Views of the Gardens and Buildings at Kew, published in 1763 and dedicated to the Dowager Princess of Wales. The publication was ‘undertaken by Royal Command’ and funded ‘by Royal Bounty’. Kirby, who provided three designs for the plates, was the King’s perspective teacher from 1756 and in 1761 was appointed Joint Clerk of the Works at Richmond and Kew.
