An etching of the gardens at Carlton House, with gardeners at work sweeping the grass. Lettered below in English and French: A View of the Garden &c. at Carlton House [...]. With the publication line 'Printed for Henry Parker in Cornhill, Robert Sayer in Fleet Street, John Bowles in Cornhil [sic], Carington Bowles in St Paul's Church Yard, and John Boydell in Cheapside'. The print is dedicated by the publisher John Tinney to Princess Augusta, wife of Frederick, Prince of Wales (1707-51). The 12-acre garden at Carlton House was laid out in the informal style for the Prince of Wales in the 1730s. From the 1740s onwards John Tinney published a number of prints of aristocratic gardens. This print, after Woollett's own design, was first published in 1760 and reissued in about 1766. See Sheila O'Connell, London 1753, exh. cat., British Museum (London, 2003), p. 212.
