Lithograph with hand-colouring of Queen Victoria as queen. A novelty print, one of a series of transparency prints. Scene of Buckingham Palace, London, with two figures on horseback and a handful of figures on foot. When held up to the light, the empty foreground is transformed into a scene of a busy coronation procession, with Queen Victoria riding in her carriage at the centre right. Both prints adhered to a window mount, with English inscription adhered below, including publisher's address, 'London, Published by Wilm Morgan, 25 Bartletts Bldgs, Holborn hill, Septr. 24th 1838.' For another impression see RCIN 630172.
William Morgan published a series of 'Morgan's Improved Transformations' during the nineteenth century on which this print is number 14. These novelty prints consisted of a picture pasted onto a single window mount, with another print, most often a portrait, adhered to the verso. When held up to the light the first picture would fade, revealing the second print. -
