View and Perspective of London, Westminster and St James's Park c.1727
Etching | 100.1 x 208.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 702207
-
A large etched panorama of London, taken from the roof of Buckingham House (later Buckingham Palace). This splendid print was begun in late 1715, when Kip advertised for subscriptions towards its production. The completed work was finished in summer 1720 and dedicated to Caroline, Princess of Wales. The royal residence of St James’s Palace is to the left and George I and the Prince and Princess of Wales can be seen riding in carriages below. The panorama was produced for some years: the example displayed shows the new church of St Martin-in-the-Fields, consecrated in 1726.
