Falconet first exhibited his Seated Cupid in 1755 as a plaster model for a marble which he completed in 1757 for Madame de Pompadour. It was highly successful and it was reproduced by artists in a wide range of media. Falconet made his own reproductions in marble and bronze, as it is the case of this statuette.Provenance
