Oval shield of furred brown and white animal hide, attached by thongs to a turned wood staff, with feather and hair tassels at lower end. The shield has further feather tassel embellishment on its face and at the top. The shield is similar to that depicted on the flag of Swaziland, adopted in 1968 when the country gained its independence, which symbolises protection for the country from its enemies.
