An 1897 Diamond Jubilee illuminated manuscript address; in a rectangular casket of native woods, with a hinged lid, inlaid with a floral border and a central panel with lilies and monogram. The interior of the lid has a central image of sections of a ship, around which are inlaid lilies in the form of a Union flag. The sides and front of the casket read: BERMUDA / TO VICTORIA QUEEN & EMPRESS / 1837-1897, while the back reads VICTORIA THE GOOD & GREAT. The address is glazed and fixed into the casket; it has a border of polychrome scrolling foliage on a gilt background.
Provenance
The address and casket were presented to Queen Victoria on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee in 1897, by the Governor, Sir George Digby Barker, and the Members of the Legislative Council and of the House of Assembly of the Bermuda Islands
