Round target nineteenth-century in the sixteenth-century Italian style

-
Round target of iron, formed of a convex main plate with a flanged edge that is overlain by and riveted to a broad separate border, the main plate and the border each reinforced at their outer edges with applied half-round strips, the whole embossed in relief and chased on a diaper pattern of lozenges enclosing quatrefoils with, in the main plate, a mounted St George in late fifteenth-century armour slaying the dragon and accompanied by a crested coat-of-arms charged with a rampant lion, and in the border, in four panels separated by radiating bands of foliate interlace, with representations of jousting knights armed in a similar manner to St George, Neptune and Apollo, and the rear fitted with two later studs for display purposes.
