Round target of iron, of convex form, rising at its centre to a conical boss surmounted at its apex by a short applied spike, formed just within its outer edge with a boldly roped rib and embossed and chased overall in ten panels with religious subjects including the Temptation of Eve, Noah’s Preparations for the Flood, the Procession of the Ark of the Covenant in Battle, Daniel in the Lions’ Den and David defeating Goliath, all on a ground of dense interlace and separated on the boss by radiating acanthus leaves, and to the outside of it by bands of fabulous beasts and masks.
The rear fitted, except behind the boss, with the remains of a black leather lining, a pair of iron staples, probably for display purposes, and a pair of buff leather enarmes, each now torn through and decorated with three columns of round-headed rivets of which those of the central column are fitted beneath their heads with rosette-washers.
