Provenance
Presented to George IV when Prince of Wales by Dr J.J. Garrett on 30 October 1804. Garrett was a surgeon aboard the East Indiaman Warley and brought to Carlton House a consignment of representative goods from China. These included a number of large porcelain models of pagodas as well as boats made of ivory, lanterns, weapons, musical instruments and articles of dress.
The swords were described in the inventory of arms at Carlton House as those 'now used by the Chinese army'. Sent to Windsor Castle on 11 April 1837, where they were displayed in the North Corridor. -
