Indian gauntlet sword, straight double edged steel blade riveted to a long reinforcement plate extending from gauntlet. Plate chased with scroll borders. Cross-bar grip within the gauntlet, lined with velvet; applied gold roundels set with rubies and emeralds.
Provenance
Presented to George III by General Lord Harris of Belmont and Seringapatam, 12 November 1800. According to the North Corridor Inventory of Windsor Castle, 'This sword was the property of the late Tipoo Saib [Tipu Sultan of Mysore (1750-1799)]'.
