  • An engraving of Anna Maria Vaiani (fl. 1626–55), printmaker, flower painter and miniaturist from Florence. A bust length portrait, inclined, with earrings with ribbon bows, pearl necklace and overcoat with upstanding collar. A preparatory drawing for this print was at Christie's, London in 1968. This print is lettered around the portrait: "ANNA MARIA VAIANI PITTRICE ET INTAGLIATRICE FIORENTINA"; along the bottom: "CMellan Gall.' del. et sc. Romæ".

The print formed part of an album of portrait prints assembled by Cassiano dal Pozzo in Rome. Described in an early nineteenth-century inventory of prints in George III's library as Illustrious Painters &c:a, the album was dismantled later in the nineteenth century and its contents sold during the early twentieth century, when only a few of Cassiano's foreign non-royal portrait prints were retained for the collection.

    Provenance

From the collection of Cassiano dal Pozzo (1588-22 October 1657); inherited by his brother, Carlo Antonio dal Pozzo (1606-1689); sold by Carlo Antonio's grandson to Clement XI, 1703; acquired by Cardinal Alessandro Albani by 1714, from whom purchased by George III in 1762
