Engraving | 17.5 x 11.7 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 670182
-
An engraving of Lucrezia Tomacelli (1576–1622). The print was probably made around the time of Lucrezia's death to accompany the prints of her funeral procession. This print is lettered around the image: "LVCRETIA TOMACELLA PALIANI TALLEACOTII MARSORVMQ DVX GALATRI PLAISANI ET CERRI BARO:"; in the lower right corner: "MG [monogram] sc".
The print formed part of an album of portrait prints assembled by Cassiano dal Pozzo in Rome. Described in an early nineteenth-century inventory of prints in George III's library as Italian Poets, Historians &c:a, the album comprised 159 prints. It was dismantled later in the nineteenth century and its contents sold during the early twentieth century, when only a few of Cassiano's foreign non-royal portrait prints were retained for the collection.
