A crimson coronation surcoat in the form of a short cloak of velvet with high collar, the inner panel of cloth of silver, embroidered in gold thread and sequins with stylised laurel and oak leaf wreaths, national emblems and military trophies; the left shoulder embroidered with large Garter Star; with gold braid fastening and tassels, white silk lining and gilt-metal neck chain.

George IV wore this surcoat with a sword belt at his coronation, beneath the crimson velvet, ermine-lined mantle. A small section of the surcoat appears in Thomas Lawrence's state portrait.
