Indian dagger with gilt metal repoussé handle decoration with flower heads, scrolling foliage and chevron band,down-curved pommel with pointed finial, pointed steel blade. Purple velvet covered scabbard with repoussé mouthpiece, chape ensuite to handle and ending in bird head

Acquired by Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh during his naval tour aboard HMS Galatea, 1867-72.
Loaned to the South Kensington Museum for display in April 1872, and illustrated in the Illustrated London News, 6 April 1872, p. 328. -
