Two arrows 1850 - 1922
Bamboo, feather, flint, paint | RCIN 62153

-
Two Native American arrows with bamboo shafts, painted green towards the tip and green/red at the top; fletched with three feathers and barbed flint arrowheads
Provenance
Presented to King George V at Buckingham Palace, 15 August 1922, from the Society of the Ark and the Dove, Maryland, USA, reviving a tradition started under King Charles I in 1633 whereby the settlers of Maryland were obliged to send two Native American arrows, in addition to a portion of silver and gold from the mines of Maryland, to the King every Easter Tuesday. The arrows were later '[a]dded to the Collection 3rd April 1928 & placed in the Grand Vestibule'.
