The etched decoration including the IHSZ monogram of Duke Julius of Brunswick, the wood stock covered in embossed and chased brass decoration incorporating the motto ALLIS IN SERVIENDO CONSVMO (I spend myself in the service of others).
Provenance
Belonged to Henry Julius 7th Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1528-1589) in Wolfenbüttel, or to his personal guard; presented to George IV when Prince Regent by Major-General Sir George Wood (1767-1831) in 1816.
