Scabbard c.1770-99
Leather, steel | 85.0 cm (length) | RCIN 61819
-
Scabbard for a sabre of black leather, blind tooled with pairs of parallel lines, saltires and deer's slots, with three blued and parcel gilt steel mounts, the top two with loose rings on their spines. Nationality uncertain: the tooling of leather in this way usually indicates a British source, but the method of attaching the leather to the mounts by wire is characteristic of Continental practice.
