Engraving of Catherine de Medici, Queen of France. Bust length with French hood, veil, open ruff, winged collar, and buttoned gown. Within an oval border with French inscription on pedestal below, including publisher's address 'AParis chez Odieuvre Md. d'Estamp. rue d'Anjou, la derniere P. Cochere à gauche entrant par la rue Dauphie CPR'. This portrait was also published as a plate to Dreux du Radier's L'Europe Illustre (1755-65).
This portrait was originally engraved by Thomas de Leu in the late sixteenth century, and has been re-worked for a much later re-issue by Odieuvre for publication in L'Europe Illustre (1755-65). -
