[Henri I de Lorraine, Duke of Guise] c.1695-1610
-
Engraving of Henri I de Lorraine, Duke of Guise. Bust length with short hair, beard, a scar on left cheek, closed ruff, slashed doublet, armour and sash. Within a framed border with French verses below. Second state, with the publication privilege altered.
The first state of this print was published 'par le blond Avec previleie de la Sainte Union', with a privilege from Catholic League, founded in 1576. That this later state is published without that privilege suggests that it may have been printed after the League's dissolution in the late 1590s.Provenance
Acquired by George III.
